Jenna Payne – 2015 ECEVS English Riding Scholarship Winner hosted by the Sussex County Horse Show
Congratulations Jenna Payne for being selected as the 2015 ECEVS English Riding Scholarship winner!
Jenna’s trainer, Jaclyn Tassey, has nothing but kind words to describe her student:
“Jenna has ridden under Jaclyn Tassey, Top Line Training LLC since she was 7 years old. She has been taking lessons and showing hunter/jumpers. Jenna is a bright, responsible and dedicated young lady. She has always done a wonderful job of balancing her school work, job at the barn, school sports, riding lessons and horse shows. Sometimes I wonder how she does it all! I was so thrilled to hear that she was a recipient of the East Coast Scholarship this year as she deserves more than any student I know. We will miss her while she is away at school as she is always very helpful at the farm and many of the younger students look up to her.”
Jenna is enrolled in a dual degree program (3+2) between Stonehill College (MA) and the University of Notre Dame. Upon completion, she will earn a BA in chemistry and a BS in chemical engineering. She is planning to minor in Arabic or Middle Eastern studies. Jenna has been selected to compete on the Equestrian Team. Jenna graduated from Pope John High School in June of 2015 where she was a member of National Honor Society, French National Honor Society and received the Agnes Scott Book Award for ranking within the top 20% of her class. Krista Vrabel – 2014 Sussex County Horse Show Scholarship Recipient Sponsored by East Coast Equine
Krista was kind enough to share an update with East Coast Equine since receiving her scholarship award in 2014. Here is how she is doing in her own words.
“In 2014 I was a recipient of the $500 Local Achievement Scholarship at the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show, and I am now a rising senior at Ithaca College expecting to graduate in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Public & Community Health, a concentration in Occupational Science, and a minor in Health Policy & Management. The scholarship money that I very appreciatively received from East Coast Equine was put to good use buying text books for both my Fall and Spring semesters. I am an active member of the Ithaca College IHSA Equestrian Team in Zone 2 Region 1, and this year I pointed out of Intermediate Flat/Fences and placed 6th at Regionals. In addition to my work-study in Ithaca College’s library, I worked as the editor of a health and wellness newsletter, volunteered in the free Ithaca College Pediatric Occupational Therapy Clinic where I provided occupational therapy under a licensed staff member, and volunteered at Beechtree, a local skilled nursing facility. This summer I am enjoying living in Ithaca, NY while riding with Audra Ravo at If Farm Only Equestrian Center in Freeville, NY and working part-time at the Tompkins County NY Health Department as a Project Assistant to the Preparedness Coordinator. In the past I have run a therapeutic horseback riding summer program called “Summer Adventures” at Winslow Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center in Warwick, NY, and I even got to volunteer at a therapeutic horseback riding center called “Riding for the Disabled” while studying abroad in Sydney, Australia. I am currently preparing to take the GREs and hope to be accepted to an Occupational Therapy Graduate Degree program for Fall 2016. It is still my dream to open a therapeutic horseback riding center where I can combine my practical skill set with my love for horses and the equestrian sport.”
East Coast Equine would like to congratulate Krista on her current successes and wish her all the best with her future academic endeavors.
